Chamber Scholarship

The Chamber offers two or more $1000 scholarships to students. The scholarship is open to any high school senior who resides in Berlin, Bolton, Hudson, Maynard or Stow. Readers equally take into account academics, community service, work experience, references and punctuality! Applications are available from area guidance counselors or online at www.assabetvalleychamber.org.

Blogging 101

The Chamber, in conjunction with the Hudson Savings Bank, is pleased to present Blogging 101, on Friday, February 9th from 8:15 to 9:30 am.

Buzzwords--blogs, Podcasts and social media-- have been all over the news these past few months. In fact, Time magazine recently named “bloggers” its 2006 person of the year! If you’re wondering if you should do a blog, this seminar is for you. We’ll provide practical guidance on how to do a blog and integrate blogs into your business plan.

Presenter Susan Getgood founded GetGood Strategic Marketing in 2004 to help bring blogs into the mix as an indispensable marketing tool. In fact, she is currently the author of the Sundance Film Festival's official blog!

Who would have imagined that the web could have revolutionized the world in such a short period of time. In fact, in 1997, only 20% of business had web sites. Now, most of us couldn't envision a world with out it. The web provides 24/7 access to communication, information and consumerism.

While the Chamber site is humble at best, this past December, it had 32,878 hits and 11,882 visitors. The average visit was 12 minutes and half the visitors visited more than once. This is a 36% increase in traffic from December 2005. Pretty amazing to think that all this information is instantaneously disseminated.

This past December, our on-line directory was visited 1166 times, community events was referred to 167 times, property for sale/lease was accessed 147 times and help wanted was utilized 141 times. Interestingly, visitors accessed Berlin demographics 193 times.

Because we want our members to benefit from this large volume of traffic, we encourage all members to check that their on-line directory listing is correct. It's just one more way to drive business your way.

Moreover, if you're a nonprofit member, please insure that your listings are updated on our community event page. Additionally, all members can use our site to list their help wanted and property for lease/sale advertising. Our property for lease/sale page is directly linked to the Town of Hudson's page to help facilitate transactions.

It's pretty remarkable to think that this website, crafted in 1997, has been visited by millions from all over the world. It certainly has served us well over the past decade. However, during the next year, we plan to rebuild the site utilizing new technology, and creating a "look and feel" that better represents our dynamic membership and the communities we serve. So, if there's something you would like us to include, now is the time to chime in!


  • Director Spotlight: Ken Simms

    • Ken Simms has served as a VP and Director of Marketing for Hudson Savings Bank since 1998. He currently chairs the Chamber’s Marketing Committee and received his MBA in Business Administration from Lowell Tech.

    Ken started in banking in 1974 and has extensive experience in the areas of marketing, retail banking and bank administration. He successfully completed the School of Bank Marketing Program at the University of Colorado and is a graduate of the School of Bank Administration and Management at the University of Wisconsin. He resides in Leominster with his wife. They have four grown sons, who are all (thank heavens) on their own.
